Buried Antenna's Does it make the plane any faster? Probably not. But, it looks awesome. If it looks better, it's faster.
Sometime around 1984, I read in the AYA Start about Dave Fletcher burying antennas on a race plane. Since I didn't know how he did it, I made up my own mounts. Originally, I cut the bases on broadband antennas and custom made them to fit N9988U. Odds are pretty good Ken Blackman converted it back to stock even though they worked just fine. The only problem I had was talking to someone taxiing directly behind me. I could hear him. He couldn't hear me.
