A Modern Parking Brake

The parking brake on pre-1978 Grummans is an embarrassment to engineers everywhere.

My first Grumman was a 1977 Cheetah.  I tried the parking brake on it and wondered how in the hell the FAA ever approved it.  I mean, purposely designing a braking system with notches in the shaft that actuates the brakes.  A built in weak spot.  Just guessing, I'd say 80% of the original notched master cylinders on pre-1978 Grummans that I've woked on have had bent shafts. I installed a line locking valve from a 1978 Tiger on that Cheetah; undocumented, of course.

Since then, I've installed two more.  It isn't easy.  It isn't cheap.  But, it's worth it.  Click through the pics.
